Often inspired by music, Felrath Hines balanced vibrant colors, subtle colors, form, and line which resulted in its own poetry. In the 80's and 90's, the unmasked, hand-painted edges of the colored areas took on an extreme importance. Between each color, Hines left the finest line of unpainted canvas to create a visual frisson.
